A NOVA Thread Lift is a quick, minimally invasive treatment that uses biocompatible, dissolvable sutures to lift and smooth the contours and texture of the face and neck. Unfortunately, the combination of age and gravity causes sagging, wrinkles and creases to creep in. Luckily, NOVA Threads were developed to reverse these effects by allowing patients to enjoy a rejuvenating procedure without undergoing surgery. In fact, thread lifts have been nicknamed “lunchtime facelifts!” The threads are placed under the skin to either lift sagging tissues or smooth away lines and wrinkles by initiating collagen production.

The treatment can create a smoother, more youthful appearance for the face, jawline, and neck. The aesthetic and medical professionals at Wunderbar are here to help each patient look and feel their best. See how you can benefit from a treatment where no surgery or downtime is required! Call us at (650) 254-1200 (Mountain View); (408) 831-6229 (San Jose); (831) 656-9331 (Carmel-by-the-Sea) or for an initial consultation.

About

Facelifts have long been regarded as the most effective facial rejuvenation treatment. They have helped countless patients achieve a long-lasting, youthful-looking appearance. But within the past three decades, newer, minimally invasive treatments have been developed as alternatives to surgery. Now, patients have more anti-aging options, including injectables, radiofrequency treatments, and laser resurfacing. But not all of them solve certain forms of skin laxity. Suture suspension or thread lifting was first introduced in the 1990s as a viable alternative to facelifts.[1] However, despite their popularity, early thread lifts used plastic and other synthetic polymer sutures, which led to complications, and less than desirable results. [2]

How NOVA Thread Lift Works

Today, thread lift sutures are made out of PDO, or polydioxanone. These dissolvable, sugar-based polymer threads have been used for closing incisions during surgery for decades. PDO is biocompatible, which means it won’t cause an allergic reaction or be rejected by the body. And because it is sugar-based, when exposed to water, it slowly dissolves. Over time, as the thread is exposed to the water molecules contained in the dermis, the PDO undergoes hydrolysis and gradually disintegrates. However, in the meantime it has stimulated collagen production in the treatment area, so the skin becomes firmer, and the desired effect remains after the thread is gone. The PDO sutures take approximately six months before they are absorbed by the body, and NOVA Thread lift results can last up to 15 months afterward.

NOVA Thread Types

Thread lifts are performed by threading a suture under the skin in the treatment area using a needle or cannula. Because they are implanted deep in the tissue, they are invisible on the surface, but beneath the skin, they are hard at work, stimulating the production of rejuvenating stores of collagen.

NOVA Thread Lifts come in different textures that provide different results. Smooth threads are placed underneath lined and wrinkled areas so that the resulting collagen smooths and firms the area, and any creasing is diminished. Barbed threads are anchored beneath the skin, where the tiny protruding spines grip the tissue so that the thread can be manipulated to lift sagging tissue.[2]

Types of NOVA Thread Lifts

NovaThread Lifts are performed using two different techniques, depending on whether you’ve chosen smooth or textured threads. Before your thread lift session begins, we’ll cleanse the skin and numb the areas being treated with a few injections of lidocaine. We’ll then create markings in the treatment area to guide thread placement. NOVA Threads use long, pre-threaded needles or cannulas that pierce the skin and are then slid through the dermis until the anchor point is reached. When the needle is withdrawn, the thread remains in place. The thread and skin can then be manipulated as needed, and then clipped, so that the end of the thread lies just beneath the surface of the skin.

NuMesh

NuMesh uses smooth threads and is used to strengthen and firm crepey or wrinkled skin. Overlapping vertical and horizontal sutures are placed beneath the skin in the treatment area to create a mesh, or net pattern. As the body responds to the threads and collagen is produced along the threads, a new supportive network is formed under the skin. This treatment may require a few sessions to achieve the desired results.

NuLyft

NuLyft creates a lifted effect for patients with skin laxity or sagging. Patients looking to achieve dramatic and immediate results can look to a Nova Lift technique. Several threads are anchored in place, and then can be pulled in different directions to create the desired lift instantly. After six months, the threads will dissolve, and the new collagen is left in place to support the lifting effect.
