Morpheus8 is a minimally invasive skin treatment that uses microneedling and radiofrequency energy to restore a firm, youthful appearance to the skin. Combining these two treatments revitalizes the skin by stimulating the body’s natural healing response. Morpheus8 uses a specialized applicator with tiny needles that penetrate the dermis, where they emit controlled pulses of radiofrequency energy. The body responds to these tiny microchannels as if an injury has occurred, and begins to regenerate the tissue. At the same time, the radiofrequency energy creates a thermal effect, and the quick pulse of heat causes tissue to contract and initiates collagen and elastin production to produce smoother, firmer, more vibrant skin. Over the course of 3-4 sessions, patients see signs of aging, scars, and sagging or crepey skin fade away.

About Collagen

Collagen is a protein found in our muscles, bones, and tendons. But most of it is found beneath our skin, where it forms a supportive structure that keeps our skin firm and elastic. These proteins form fibers that are interwoven to form the connective tissue that anchors our skin to the underlying tissues. Unfortunately, as time progresses, this support structure begins to weaken as our body produces less and less collagen. After our early adulthood, collagen production declines by 1-1½% each year.[1] That means that if you’re 50, you’ve lost nearly a third of the collagen in your skin.  As a direct result, unwanted wrinkles, lines, and loose skin begin to appear. There’s no shortage of lotions and serums that promise anti-aging magic, but they simply can’t go deep enough to be effective. Thankfully, advances in aesthetic technology and a better understanding of the aging process have made a better way to turn back the clock available!

How Does Morpheus8 Work?

Morpheus8 delivers fresh, supple skin in just a few short sessions. During a treatment, your technician applies the Morpheus8 device to the skin. The handpiece contains 24 extremely fine needles that are inserted into the skin at controlled measurements in order to reach the optimal depth for the treatment area. That’s because some areas of skin are thicker than others. These needles have an insulated coating except for the tips, so once they reach the dermis, the RF energy is emitted where it matters most! [2]

Morpheus8 heats the dermis up to 122°F, which isn’t enough to cause a burn, but is just enough heat to get things moving. This quick blast of heat causes the existing collagen fibers beneath the skin to contract and thicken, tightening the skin. It also stimulates the production of new collagen, elastin, and blood vessels. In the meantime, the body registers the needle punctures as an injury, and an inflammatory response occurs. Growth factors, white blood cells, and other regenerative properties flood the area to repair and reinforce it.[3] And while you might not be too interested in the science, you’ll definitely be interested in the results

Preparing for Morpheus8 Treatment

Considering the minimally-invasive nature of this procedure, patients will only need to do a few things to prepare for the first session. They include the following.

  • Abstaining from alcohol the day before and after treatment
  • Avoiding excessive sun exposure and wearing high SPF sunscreen to shield your skin
  • Refraining from taking certain blood-thinning pain relievers and supplements the week before your appointment
  • Avoiding skin treatments containing retinol or chemical exfoliants 48 hours prior

At the start of your treatment, we will apply a topical numbing agent in the treatment areas to prevent any discomfort. Once it takes effect, the Morpheus8 handpiece will be placed on the surface of your skin. When the device is activated, the microneedles inside the device will gently penetrate the layers of the skin. At the same time, the tips of the microneedles will heat underlying tissues to encourage collagen and elastin production to start skin remodeling. [2] The needles’ depth will be adjusted throughout the session based on your unique needs, your comfort level, and the area being treated. We will repeat the applications of the device to your skin, ensuring that the entire treatment area receives even coverage.

Unlike other skin treatments, Morpheus8 allows patients to resume their normal activities once their session ends. Therefore, there is no significant downtime or recuperating necessary. There will be, however, slight post-treatment symptoms of redness, irritation, and swelling for 1-3 days. [2] Plan to protect your skin with high SPF sunscreen and use caution when applying cosmetics or going out in the sun until your skin completely heals.

Your results will become evident in just a few short weeks once the increased collagen and elastin production has transformed your skin from the inside out! You’ll enjoy firmer, smoother skin, and an improved appearance of wrinkles, lines, and scars. Some patients will need up to three sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart to see the most effective results.

Corresponding & Complementary Procedures

During your initial appointment, we’ll explore other options for obtaining radiant-looking skin. We may also recommend:

Botox, the leading injectable treatment, provides patients with a dramatic difference in their complexion. Once injected, Botox works to temporarily block the signals responsible for causing facial muscles to contract. Once it takes effect, patients will see a noteworthy reduction in wrinkles and facial creases. We recommend waiting 7-14 days after Morpheus8 treatment before getting Botox injections.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers focus on restoring youthful plumpness in the face. Patients can receive fillers a few weeks after their Morpheus8 treatment. Each formulation can target the specific areas where you need it most. Patients can choose from a variety of biocompatible hyaluronic acid fillers Juvéderm or Restylane, and collagen-stimulating calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA) filler Radiesse, and more to find the most effective treatment for your needs.
