Restylane by Galderma is a popular and well-known family of fillers for facial rejuvenation that provide volumizing and wrinkle smoothing solutions. There are a variety of Restylane injectables that are specially formulated for specific areas of the face. Restylane Defyne, Restylane Refyne, Restylane Silk, Restylane Kysse, and Restylane Lyft all work at different depths and in different areas of facial tissue to achieve the most desirable results.

These products are all specialized formulations of hyaluronic acid (HA), which have a many-year track record as a successful way to boost facial volume comfortably and safely. What’s more, the Restylane family of fillers is part of a pioneering group of injectables that are on the leading edge of beauty treatments. Restylane fillers use XpresHAn technology, which allows the filler to move on a molecular level in response to your facial expressions to achieve the most natural look.

Before and After Photos

Facial Aging

Over time, our facial tissues begin to show signs of aging. Lines and wrinkles, especially around the nose and mouth, can materialize and grow worse over time. As skin begins to lose its elasticity, the nasolabial folds can also become more noticeable, and we may even develop vertical lines around our lips. There are many things that contribute to facial aging from both inside and outside the body. However, depending on our genetics, our sun exposure, our skin care regimen, and a host of other factors, these lines can be mild, to moderate, or severe.

As we grow older, our faces can also go through significant deep tissue changes. Facial sagging is caused by the effects of gravity as well as repeated muscle action and deficits in key tissue components like collagen and elastin. Superficial and deep fat deposits, along with facial bone structure itself, also change.(1)  This can cause our faces to appear more hollow in places such as the cheeks and the chin. However, with the advent of straightforward, cost-effective injectable treatments such as Botox Cosmetic and Dysport, and now dermal fillers like Restylane, patients have far more solutions available to fight the effects of aging!

Dermal Fillers: Safe and Personalized Treatment

Dermal fillers are a great choice for patients looking for a simple in-office treatment that will smooth their wrinkles and plump up their face. Filler treatments are so simple they can be performed in a matter of minutes in-office, allowing you to get on with your day immediately after your session. These procedures are also completely customizable.

Why Hyaluronic Acid?

Hyaluronic acid is one of the best choices for tissue volumization. It’s a natural substance that’s already present in your skin, so there’s a very low risk of any allergic reaction. That’s why it’s the single most common ingredient in dermal fillers. The Restylane family of fillers is incredibly versatile, and your provider can hand-pick a Restylane product to address specific problem areas, according to your exact requirements.

Filler Viscosity and Elasticity

The viscosity and elasticity of fillers are measured by the G prime (G’). The higher the G’, the firmer the filler is, and the more likely it is to stay in a specific area. The lower the G’, the softer the filler, and the higher the likelihood of spread.(2)Fillers of a high-density with large-particles are recommended for deeper injection, while lower-density, small-particle fillers are useful for the correction of fine lines.(3) Therefore, the scientists at Galderma have created a selection of injectable HA to suit a wide range of needs.

Restylane Refyne

Restylane Refyne is designed to correct moderate marionette lines and nasolabial folds for a more youthful facial appearance. Once it’s injected into the treatment area, XpresHAn technology allows the filler to work in harmony with the natural movements of your face. It smooths facial wrinkles and folds to restore a softer look to your features.

What is XpresHAn Technology?

Nobody wants their fillers to make them look unnatural! That’s why Restylane Refyne and Defyne use only the most effective, advanced HA formulas. Through a process called cross-linking, the viscosity of the HA can be altered according to the tissue penetration depth required. Studies indicate that Restylane fillers with XpresHAn are the only hyaluronic acid fillers that help maintain nasolabial fold and lower face movement.(4)

Each filler has a slightly different makeup of HA which has been adjusted on a molecular level to optimize its effects. Cross-linking therefore produces a range of fillers of varied viscosity and volume. This versatility is a huge advantage for patients, from those who want more subtle changes, to those who want more pronounced rejuvenating effects.

Restylane Defyne

Restylane Defyne is specifically formulated for moderate to severe folds and lines. It’s a great treatment for patients looking to reduce the appearance of more prominent nasolabial folds and marionette lines, as well as those who want to enhance chin projection.

Benefits of Restylane Defyne

  • Advanced XpresHAn technology
  • Diminishes laugh lines
  • Provides lasting chin definition
  • Maintains natural expressions
  • Contains numbing lidocaine
  • Achieves long-lasting results

Restylane Defyne’s combination of 20 mg/ml cross-linked HA and 3 mg/ml lidocaine make it a good choice for patients who may worry their treatment will hurt. Lidocaine is a highly effective local numbing agent added to fillers such as Restylane Defyne to help patients feel more comfortable during the procedure.

What is Chin Retrusion?

Restylane Defyne is a solution for chin retrusion, sometimes referred to as a weak chin. If you have a weak chin, you may notice issues with balance and symmetry in the lower face and a poorly defined lower jawline. Chin augmentation with high G’ fillers like Restylane Defyne can address mild-to-moderate retrusion (4-10mm) with excellent results.(5)

Restylane Lyft

Restylane Lyft, formerly known as Perlane, is a hyaluronic acid filler for the face and hands. Its formulation is particularly effective to help patients gain natural-looking volume in the cheeks, and help to regain more youthful-looking hands with the replenishment of tissue fullness. If you’ve seen a decline in facial volume, particularly in the midface, or if you have noticed your hands look bonier and less youthful, a Restylane Lyft treatment could be the solution!

Restylane Silk

Restylane Silk is a targeted HA filler treatment for perioral wrinkles, or wrinkles around the mouth. It can also be used to enhance and augment the appearance of the lips. It contains 0.3 % lidocaine to reduce discomfort during injection. As with every Restylane treatment, injections are performed with an ultrafine needle, meaning your experience will be as comfortable as possible.

Restylane Silk is highly efficient! In fact, Galderma notes that the average patient requires less than half a tablespoon of Restylane Silk to correct severe wrinkles around the mouth or lips.(6)

Restylane Kysse

If you’re looking for a plumper pout, Restylane Kysse is just the ticket. This formula is specially designed to add volume for smoother, fuller, softer lips. And, like the rest of the Restylane family, it utilizes XpresHAn technology so that your results are natural-looking. It’s firm enough to hold its shape once injected, but soft enough to respond to your facial expressions so every smile is 100% you.

Candidates for Restylane

Restylane is made with hyaluronic acid, which is a naturally occurring sugar that’s already present in the body. This means there’s a very low chance of having an allergic reaction to treatment. Most patients over the age of 21 who want to increase facial volume, improve facial lines and wrinkles, or address age-related changes in the hands are good candidates for Restylane! You may not be able to get Restylane fillers if you:

  • Have a history of severe allergic reactions
  • Are allergic to gram positive bacteria
  • Are allergic to HA fillers
  • Have a bleeding disorders
  • Are allergic to anesthetics, such as lidocaine

In addition to the above points, you may not be able to get dermal fillers if you have pimples or lesions in the area of treatment. If you’re getting Restylane Silk and are prone to cold sores, we may recommend taking antivirals before and after your treatment. It’s not advisable to undergo other skin treatments in the same area, such as laser skin resurfacing and chemical peels in the immediate periods before or after your Restylane procedure.

Personal Consultation

Your personal consultation at Wunderbar will allow you to speak to a skin specialist about your aesthetic concerns. We will guide you through this simple process and ask you to provide some background details about your health and medical history.
